2015 UX Workshop Series

This year, PhillyCHI has organized an educational workshop series for beginner practitioners, students, and professionals working in digital who are interested in learning about topics in usability, user experience, and information architecture.

The series has been built upon topics that are foundational to the practice of user experience. Each half-day workshop is designed to teach fundamental theory and its application through case studies and hands-on exercises.

Tickets may be purchased for single workshops ($35) or the entire series ($315).

Beyond the Like Button: Incorporating Social Identity Theory into Design

Users and clients expect digital experiences to allow for social interaction. Because of this, digital design teams are constantly pushed to include social aspects into their products. Incorporating effective social interactions into an experience isn’t as simple as slapping a “Like” button on every page. Designing a successful, usable and influential social experience requires thoughtfulness and a conscious effort.

Social Identity Theory provides a framework for design teams to thoughtfully incorporate elements of social influence within their work. This presentation defines and discusses key elements of Social Identity Theory, using relevant examples in digital design. The presentation will conclude with a facilitated discussion on moving beyond the “Like” button when designing for online social interaction.

Our 1st event of the year is on Tuesday, January 20th at 5:45pm in collaboration with UX Book Club Philadelphia at Intuitive Company. We’ll discuss the A Book Apart title “Just Enough Research” by Erika Hall. After we have our own discussion, she’ll join us via Google Hangout for a Q&A.
